Vodafone Group has launched MusicStation in the UK, a service which allows mobile phone users to download and share unlimited tracks.
A deal with music company Omnifone will allow Vodafone to offer 1.2 million tracks from major music labels, for £1.99 a week. The service also includes live charts and personalised music news.
Via MusicStation’s social networking features, users will be able to sign up friends and share playlists and songs over Vodafone’s network.
The service is already available to Vodafone users with compatible handsets, and it will be rolled out to other handsets, including touch-screen devices and BlackBerry smartphones.
MusicStation phones will be available from Vodafone and Phones4U shops, and when users decide to upgrade or change to a different handset, they will be able to keep their music as long as they stay on a Vodafone contract.
