A leak by Motorola staff has revealed that the struggling handset vendor will be releasing two new smartphones in the first quarter of 2009, code named Alexander and Attila.
The Windows Mobile-powered PDA style phones are being manufactured by Taiwan-based ODM Compal Communications.
Both handsets support 3.5G and Wi-Fi connectivity. The difference between the handsets is the user interface.
The Alexander phone - mimicking RIM’s Blackberry range - has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, whilst the Attila - yet another iPhone clone - incorporates a 2.8-inch 240×320 touchscreen panel.
In addition, the Alexander is rumoured to include a camera with resolution of at least five megapixels, and assisted GPS capabilities.
Shipment of the handsets will begin in the first quarter of 2009, rather than during the fourth quarter of 2008 as originally scheduled by Motorola.
