Roamware launches SIM Box fraud detector
US-based Roamware this week launched new technology to detect SIM Box fraud.

The SIM Box Detector allows mobile operators to monitor roaming calls and to check whether a SIM Box is being used to skim revenues.

Originally designed for legal use, SIM Boxes, or GSM Gateways, allow fraudsters to terminate international calls and intercept revenues.

SIM Box fraud causes revenue losses of between 5% and 7% on roaming calls for network operators.

Fraudulent SIM Boxes are also responsible for roaming problems including call set up delays, poor voice quality, network congestion, and spectrum management issues.

Unlike traditional SIM Box fraud probe based solutions, Roamware’s SIM Box Detector is a non-intrusive solution installed in the core network.

Roamware said the SIM Box Detector is particularly relevant during the recession, with operators looking to collect every penny due to them.

“In the current climate, every dollar saved is a dollar earned, and operators understand the value of optimizing revenue and service quality to maximize margins and customer satisfaction,” Roamware said.
