Kiwis Jump on Local Search Bandwagon
In a timely move the Yellow Pages Group in New Zealand has begun its new local mobile search product which utilises mobilePeople’s liquid LOCAL solution.

The new service is aimed at the provision of mobile search that will give New Zealanders’ access to all kinds of local based information, using their using their browser and/or two way SMS.

The service will mean that Kiwi’s will be able to perform local searches while on the move; they can look for a restaurant or a car dealership as well as any other business, not only by name but also by keyword and category.

Once they find something they like, they can pull up directions for how to get there or even a street map.

A similar text based service is also available, where customers send a text request in the same way as searching and receive the result and a deep link to the WAP solution

This announcement is timely as it comes in the same week that British company, Anywhere BT ToGo smartphone, published a report that showed that a massive 45% of mobile device users browsed for goods or services while out of their homes and that a third of users also used searches for price comparisons when shopping.

The report also said that this local shopping with mobile devices was liable to greatly expand in the next few years.

All this is great news for Yellow mobile who boast 100% accessibility across both of New Zealand’s massive islands.
